One thing we’ve learned since opening Shug’s: it’s the people who make the place.
Last week, we said goodbye to a very special part of our team, Marcela, as she retired and moved back home to Peru. She was one of our very first team members, working in prep at Mockingbird before later joining the Lemmon location, and over the years she brought so many of her family members to work with us, many of whom are still part of our team today.
If you’ve ever enjoyed a sandwich from Shug’s, there’s a good chance part of it was prepared by Marcela’s loving hands.
So many of our favorite memories include Marcela, and our little family won’t be the same without her. Cheers to six years of laughter, sass, and so much bacon 🥓💛
If you’ve got a moment, drop some love for Marcela in the comments – she may not realize just how much this community appreciates everything she’s done for us, and we’ll make sure she sees the comments all the way in Peru 🇵🇪

All STORES 🚫 CLOSED THANKSGIVING DAY 🦃 (regular hours all other days around the holiday 😋)
This time of year always gets us feeling grateful — we love all of you ❤️ We’re so grateful for our growing Shug’s community that now stretches far beyond DFW 🌎 What started as a single bagel shop in Dallas has grown to soon-to-be 5 stores in 4 cities 🤯 We’re so excited to open in Austin soon (hopefully this Dec/Jan 🤞) and in Fort Worth in 2026 🐮
Slow, thoughtful growth — entering badass neighborhoods that crave our bagels, staying humble (we can always be better), and keeping a relentless drive to deliver delicious food and quality service — will always be our North Star
We’re also deeply thankful for everyone who shows up every day to keep this whole thing running and make Shug’s what it is 🙏
Cheers to the future, and thank you to everyone who’s supported us along the way 🥹
