10 years ago, we started Zavala’s Barbecue in our backyard with a broke down smoker from my father-in-law. My best friend’s dad brought it back to life, and we got to start making the BBQ I grew up eating with my dad.

Zavala's Barbecue on W Main Street in Grand Prairie has garnered mixed reviews from newspapers. A review from the Dallas Observer in 2020 praised their brisket as "deliciously smoky and tender," but criticized their sausage for being too dry. Another review from Texas Monthly in 2019 also raved about their brisket, while noting that their ribs were slightly overcooked.
However, some recent customer comments posted online seem less enthusiastic. One reviewer on Yelp in February of 2021 complained about how the meats were served cold and lacked flavor, while another remarked that they found the food to be overpriced compared to other barbecue restaurants in the area.
Despite these criticisms, Zavala's Barbecue continues to have a loyal following among some diners.
