Removing our online ordering system, since we closed our Greenville location, and choosing a more analog approach to operating this business has helped us reconnect with our base in a more personal and intentional way while also helping us operationally as a small-batch cheesecake atelier.
The conversations feel warmer. The orders feel more thoughtful and the experience feels more like VAL’S.
In a world pushing speed, automation and Ai, we’re learning there is still beauty in picking up the phone, asking questions, connecting with you in person and creating something with care for each person who walks through our doors.
Thank you for continuing to grow with us as we shape the next chapters!

A conversation about 3 things:
1. Demolition of Akard bridge, the Cedars being surrounded by construction activities, the world and economy we live in now, and the consequences of me building ornaments around the star product for years have all pushed us towards pivoting again!
2. New Business Model= Catering to YOU + Modified Retail Experience (Friday to Sunday) + Cheesecake Classes
3. New hours starting June 1st for retail: 11am to 7pm, Friday to Sunday, and 7-Day Catering ( whole cheesecake orders, custom cheesecake & event catering)
VAL'S is truly becoming a cheesecake atelier focusing on the love and art of knowing one's community through the passion of baking cheesecake.

Dear Pal,
To be a business and say we have not felt the pinch of this economy would simply not be us… as you know me by now.
What humbles me most is how your support continues to show itself emotionally and fiscally in ways that are unwavering and deeply meaningful.
And today of all days, I can hear Mother reminding me what business and community truly mean… lessons I first witnessed while watching her build her photography business in the 80s and 90s in Haiti.

Marketing, branding, good videography, influencers, social media reach, and all of that matters. I get it!
And...
When someone reaches out to you and says, “My dad has to have a VAL’S cheesecake for his birthday”...that hits different.
That’s not marketing. That’s not social media. That’s real life.
That’s somebody choosing you for a moment that actually matters to them...a celebration...a memory...a tradition!
I don’t ever take that lightly at all or for granted!
The goal was never just to sell cheesecakes…It was to become part of people’s lives.
So if you’re building a business, anything,
don’t chase the numbers so hard that you miss that.

No cheesecake specials this week due to my state of mind AND no cheesecake class this Saturday due to funeral arrangements.
Hours remain the same: Wednesday 3-7pm, Thursday to Sunday 11am-7pm.

On this beautiful Monday, our hearts are heavy at VAL'S.
We’re mourning the passing of one of our former team members, Yolanda who helped VAL’S carve its place in the sun.
Yolanda was with us for over two years. Her hands touched countless cheesecakes that made their way into homes, celebrations, and events all across DFW.
She was self-taught, proudly calling it “University YouTube”, and her talent was undeniable. Yolanda and I approached things differently on many aspects and this difference created pure magic at VAL'S...Leather and Lace for sure...🩵
Her decorating skills were unmatched, and her consistency never wavered as a baker.
More than that, she was a mother. Yolanda leaves behind three daughters.
During a Good Samaritan act of helping another human being, she was tragically struck by a vehicle a few days ago.
Right now, we ask for 3 things:
1) Prayer: For strength, comfort, and peace for her family.
2) Support: If you’re able, please consider donating to the GoFundMe set up for her daughters. The link can be found in our STORIES all week!
3) Share this post if you can and want to in the name of Yolanda's daughters.
Anything helps. Truly.

Before I explain my unpopular opinion, who is your pick?
I am basing my pick for best actor tonight on pure skills and the fact that I think the true hallmark of a good actor is to no longer be seen as that actor playing a specific role but for the actor to no longer exist and for the character to completely take over...Ethan Hawke was no longer himself, he was and Wagner Moura was that professor and researcher.

Just 3 thoughts on CITY HALL's 1 billion dollars repair needs:
1. Put it up for a vote for the city residents to decide!
2. Where can we view and analyze this Billion dollar report?
3. Asset Management in the civil engineering world allows Cities to assess the risk score (likelihood of failure x consequence of failure) of their assets, extend the lives of their infrastructures, prioritize risks, identify critical needs and manage funds wisely! YOU don't hav to spend 1 billion dollars NOW and you might find actual savings!

3 YEARS: This past March 4th marked three years of VAL'S on Akard.
And honestly… I didn’t feel like celebrating the usual way.
No promotions.
No big social media push.
No “anniversary specials.”
Instead, I just wanted to sit inside and with VAL'S.
To sit with the journey this place on Akard is on...The good parts....The beautiful parts...The hard parts...And the truths that come with something that’s been part of My life for so many years.
Most of all, I’ve been thinking about the people who keep showing up. The ones who walk through the door, bring friends, celebrate birthdays, or just need a slice after a long day. Your support is the real celebration.
..And I’m also realizing something about myself.
I’m evolving.
As a person.
As a business owner.
As someone still figuring it all out.
And as I evolve…so will the meaning of VAL'S.
I am just grateful for:
Three years.
A lot of cheesecake...And a whole lot of people who make this journey worth it.
..And when all is said and done, I still want you to cha cha cha with me...

For 4 years, I became so engulfed in caring for my mom while trying to hold everything together, maintaining a career as a civil engineer, carrying anger and resentment toward my siblings.
In all of that noise, responsibility, and exhaustion, I forgot to capture the quiet moments with her, the ordinary moments, the laughter, and the small conversations that feel insignificant until they’re gone.
If you still have your parents, pause, take the photo, record the video, and sir a little longe with them. Those moments become priceless one day.
Don’t let life move so fast that you forget to capture love!
