WHY I PUT IT ON PAPER
One of my customers asked me recently, “Why did you write a leadership book?” It was a fair question, and one that caused me to pause before answering.
I didn’t write The Sullivan Leadership Manual because I have leadership all figured out. I wrote it because I’ve spent a lifetime learning it. I’ve learned through successes and failures. Through hard decisions, great people, difficult seasons, and more than a few lessons that came the hard way.
So I put them on paper.
Not as a textbook. Not as a theory and certainly not because I have all the answers, but as real-world leadership lessons from someone who has lived them.
If something I’ve learned over the past four decades can help another person become a better leader, make a better decision, or perhaps avoid one of the mistakes I made along the way—and I have made a bunch of em’—then putting these experiences on paper was worth it.
Leadership is meant to be lived. And what we learn along the way is meant to be passed on.
